"Secret Student"!?!?

I believe that our winter break was needed and the two day snow break was a nice addition! There comes a time when the kids need to step away for a bit and spend some quality time with their families.  It seems that when these breaks take place throughout the year, the students come back with energy and ready to learn.  Not that they weren't that way before break, but it is just that they seem rejuvenated! They are doing terrific as a class!
We have added a new feature to our classroom after break and it is called our "Secret Student".  Every day I pick a student at the beginning of the school day that I am going to watch very closely throughout the day.  If this student  chooses to make great choices and is respectful all day long they earn the class a link.  And when we get the links to touch the floor, I bring a treat to school.  If I believe that they have done a great job, I announce the student's name to the class that I was watching, if they had a rough day in school, then I either keep that student's name to myself or tell that student individually that they were the "Secret Student".  So the class only knows who the student was if they were fortunate to earn the class a link.  So far, every student has earned a link for the class since break!!  Keep up the great work!

Oh What a Day!

Friday, November 19th was a day full of excitement!  The kids have been waiting for this day to come for a long time!  The excitement was building throughout the day on Friday, knowing that the eye dissection was "just around the corner".  The kids were very enthusiastic throughout the lab and had wonderful questions.  Once the lab was complete they began their descriptive writings about the eye dissection.  I loved reading their sentences and I could feel their energy in their writings.

I am just happy that we don't do dissection every day!!  Let me tell you, it was an exciting and eventful day!
